So I listened. I kept going. I stopped trying to change myself.

People mocked my village accent and laughed at me when I just started acting. They said I wasn’t good enough for Nollywood. Some told me, "You must change how you talk if you want to make it." It hurt me so much. I wanted to give up so many times. My heart was heavy. But my mom told me not to stop. She said my voice was special. She said my accent is part of who I am and I should carry it with pride. So I listened. I kept going. I stopped trying to change myself. I started using my accent in my acting. And now, that same voice they laughed at is the reason people love me today. I get roles because of it. My fans feel close to me because I talk like them.  That pain became my blessing. That shame turned into my strength. So please, don’t hide who you are. Don’t kill your light because others don’t understand it. What makes you different is what makes you beautiful. ~~ Chinenye Nnebe On Facebook

ALWAYS VALUE LIFE AND TAKE PROPER CARE OF YOURSELF

This morning in Bonny Island, close to the old market, something happened that was really touching. A man woke up, got dressed for work, and stepped out like every other day, waiting for a bus to take him to his workplace. But life had a different plan. He sat down while waiting, and after some time, he quietly passed on. It’s a reminder that life is fragile. We make plans for the day, for tomorrow, and for the future, not knowing what awaits us. Let’s learn to value each moment, cherish our loved ones, and be grateful for every breath we take. On Facebook

How Do We Define a Music Genre?

Tyla is not an Afrobeats artist. Diamond Platnumz is not an Afrobeats artist. Flavour is not an Afrobeats artist. Fela is not an Afrobeats artist. Yet these four are some of Africa’s biggest music exports. So why aren’t they all Afrobeats? Because Afrobeats is not defined by being African, it’s a distinct sound, not a continent-wide label. There are different standalone genres of music in Africa that shouldn’t be lumped into one. Let’s break it down — with facts, not sentiments. And let me say this early: some of these key insights were raised by someone who thinks deeply about the African music industry — so this article carries real-life conversations, not just Google knowledge. 🎵 First — What Is a Music Genre and How Is It Classified? A music genre is a category of music that shares common characteristics  like sound, rhythm, instruments, lyrics, structure, and cultural background. It’s not just about where you’re from, but how your music sounds, what it represents, and w...
